ATP Montpellier, Zagreb: Finals Predictions

Richard Gasquet
Richard Gasquet v Benoit Paire (Montpellier, F)
It is no surprise that the Montpellier final will be contested between two home players considering the main draw was littered with 12 Frenchmen.  It has been a good tournament prediction-wise as I correctly predicted that Richard Gasquet and Benoit Paire would contest the final.  Gasquet defeated Jarkko Nieminen in the semi-finals as he was forced to three sets for his third consecutive match.  Paire lost the opening set of his semi-final to Michael Llodra, but came roaring back with a 4-6 6-3 6-1 victory.  Paire has been one of the most improved players on the ATP tour and he has certainly demonstrated his potential this week to have a very solid year.  Gasquet leads the tour for wins in 2013 and I think he will narrowly make it 14 wins with a tough victory over Paire in the final tomorrow.

Prediction - Gasquet to beat Paire in 3 sets

Marin Cilic v Jurgen Melzer (Zagreb, F)
The number 1 seed, Marin Cilic will take on the number 4 seed, Jurgen Melzer in the Zagreb final.  Cilic had his toughest match of the week as he defeated Mikhail Youzhny, 4-6 6-4 6-3, recovering from losing the first set to take the second and use that momentum to claim the deciderMelzer, meanwhile edged a tight two setter with Robin Haase, 7-6(2) 6-3.  This has been a very solid week for Melzer, who I did not think would be able to match his seeding of a semi-final place.  It has been a relatively slow start to 2013 for Cilic but things seem to be clicking this week and I am confident he will beat Melzer to take the title.

Prediction - Cilic to beat Melzer in 2 tight sets
