ATP Washington 3rd Round Predictions: Dimitrov-Querrey, Isner-Devvarman and more

Rain interrupted the Washington schedule last night so quite a few second round mens matches are still to be played.  It is disappointing though that of the six matches scheduled on the Stadium court, all of them are ATP matches and as per usual, the women are relegated to the outside courts.

1. Grigor Dimitrov v Sam Querrey
Grigor Dimitrov
The last few months have been pretty lean for both Grigor Dimitrov and Sam Querrey, who will play each other for the first time in the 3rd round of the Citi Open.  Dimitrov has failed to build on his excellent win over Novak Djokovic in Madrid, but a solid straight sets win over Xavier Malisse in round two was a promising start to his US hard court summer season.  Querrey laboured to a victory over Denis Istomin, eventually coming through in a third set tiebreak having saved four match points.  A quarter-final spot looms for the winner and I think it will be Dimitrov who will be able to sort out his issues and beat the misfiring American...

Prediction - Dimitrov to beat Querrey in 2 tight sets

2. John Isner v Somdev Devvarman
The Washington draw this year features a lot of players struggling for form.  I would have lumped John Isner into that group a few weeks ago, but the gigantic American has built together a few solid weeks on tour including winning the title last week in Atlanta, beating Kevin Anderson in three tiebreak sets.  He couldn't serve out his match yesterday against fellow American, Alex Kuznetsov, but eventually managed to wrap up the match in a tiebreak.  His opponent, Somdev Devvarman has had an excellent week as he came through qualifying, took out Rhyne Williams in round one and then beat the defending champion, Alexandr Dolgopolov in a comfortable straight sets win.  What you can expect from this match is tiebreaks... and most probably, another Isner win.

Prediction - Isner to beat Devvarman in 3 sets

Best of the rest: ATP Washington 3rd Round Predictions
Milos Raonic to beat Marinko Matosevic in 2 very tight sets
Radek Stepanek to beat Dmitry Tursunov in 3 sets
