ATP Cincinnati - Roddick, Davy progress

The QF line-up was completed on Thursday night and once again it is a strong field that will battle it out in this ATP Master's event in Cincinnati. Thursday saw two great performances from players who have struggled in recent months. Andy Roddick has looked lacklustre since his title win in Miami however he toughed it out in his 3rd round match coming through in a 3rd set tiebreak against Robin Soderling. Roddick has blamed his recent form on a virus however this was a solid performance and Roddick will now face Novak Djokovic, who beat in-form Nalbandian in a surprisingly one sided affair, 6-1 7-6. Nikolay Davydenko, like Andy Roddick also produced a battling performance to take out David Ferrer and came through 7-5 in the final set. Davydenko has not looked himself since an injury kept him out for several months at the start of the season but this was a promising win. Davydenko will now face Federer who received a bye after Kohlschreiber had to pull out of the tournament through injury.

In the the other QFS, Rafa Nadal had to save a MP as he battled his way past the tricky, Julien Benneteau. It was not stellar stuff from Rafa but he got through and will now face Marcos Baghdatis who knocked out Tomas Berdych in straight sets. Andy Murray was also made to work for his win as he came past an inspired Ernests Gulbis, 4-6 6-3 7-6. Gulbis has had some impressive results this year however Murray just had the edge and managed to call on his superior experience. Murray will now face Mardy Fish who continued his good form with a straight set win over Richard Gasquet. Murray will be in the mood to dispatch of Mardy Fish after their controversial last encounter at Queen's where Fish prevailed.
