WTA San Diego - Svetlana and Aga reach final

This week in San Diego has been highlighted by the return to form of Svetlana Kuznetsova. Kuznetsova has had an extremely poor year by her standards reaching just 1 QF however she has now reached her first final of the year by overcoming Flavia Pennetta, 6-4 6-0 in what was undoubtedly her best performance of the season. Kuznetsova seemed to be back to her best playing confident, attacking tennis with her error count reasonably low and her serve functioning well. It was a good week for Pennetta knocking out number 1 seed Stosur, but she will be disappointed by the second set bagel and will look to build on a good showing in Cinncinati next week where she has a favourable draw.

Kuznetsova's opponent in the final will be Agnieszka Radwanska who has stormed her way into the final losing just 8 games in her last two matches. Radwanska, like Kuznetsova has not been playing at her best but her performances over Peer and Hantuchova were both extremely impressive with A-Rad demonstrating how her variety and intelligence on the court can hurt opponents. She has favoured not playing against some of the hard hitters this week who can often have too much for A-Rad however her level has definitely been raised. The final will be an interesting with both players looking for a first title this year. I'm going to go for Kuznetsova to prevail in 2 sets as once she gets some momentum and wins under her belt, she can be mighty tough to stop.
