ATP World Tour Finals: Day 1 Predictions

Andy Murray
Andy Murray v Tomas Berdych
Andy Murray kicks off the World Tour Finals tomorrow with a potentially decisive tie against Tomas Berdych.  Murray was knocked out of Paris by the eventual finalist, Jerzy Janowicz having wasted a match point.  In fact, the last three matches Murray has played he wasted match points (Janowicz in Paris, Djokovic in Shanghai and Raonic in Tokyo).  Berdych reached the quarter-finals in Paris before succumbing to a straight sets loss to Gilles Simon and he has had a pretty solid ending to the season.  The Czech number one leads the head-to-head 4-3, but Murray won their last encounter in a windswept Arthur Ashe stadium.  Berdych will be much more at home indoors, but I still think Murray will have the edge at the O2...

Prediction - Murray to beat Berdych in 3 sets

Novak Djokovic v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Novak Djokovic will christen the first night session and play his fifth match of the season against Jo-Wilfried Tsonga.  Djokovic fell in his first match at Paris to Sam Querrey and it was suggested that he was distracted by off-court issues.  Tsonga reached the quarter-finals, but fell in a disappointing performance to David Ferrer.  Djokovic has won all four of their 2012 encounters with only one of them being close; that was the quarter-final at Roland Garros where Tsonga held match points.  I have a feeling Tsonga will struggle this week and that Djokovic will win this match rather comfortably.

Prediction - Djokovic to beat Tsonga in 2 sets
