Zheng Jie beats Pennetta in Auckland final

Zheng Jie rounded off a stunning week in Auckland with victory over the number 4 seed, Flavia Pennetta in the final.  Unfortunately, Pennetta had to retire at the start of the third set because of a back injury trailing at 2-6 6-3 2-0 down.  This was Zheng's fourth title on the WTA tour, but her first one since 2006.  Zheng looks to be on good form at the start of this year and will go into the Australian Open as an unseeded threat to many.  Both Zheng and Pennetta have now pulled out of Hobart and Sydney respectively and will prepare for the Australian Open.  Highlights from the final can be found below, which was played indoors because of the horrendous weather.

Review of predictions - I fared much better in Auckland than Brisbane successfully predicting one of the finalists in Flavia Pennetta.  I also managed to predict that Lisicki would go out in the quarter-finals although unfortunately this was due to injury.  I did well for the top half of the draw, but was pretty shocking at predicting anything right in the bottom half!
