ATP& WTA Rome Final Predictions

ATP Final - Novak Djokovic v Rafael Nadal
Djokovic progressed to the final with an excellent performance to dispatch Roger Federer in the semi-finals, 6-2 7-6.  Despite some stern resistance at the end of the second set, it was a flat display from Federer; however I think he has had the perfect preparation for Roland Garros and will not be disheartened by this loss.  Nadal beat David Ferrer 7-6 6-0 in the other semi-final.  The Spaniard won their last encounter in the Monte-Carlo, but Djokovic was not 100% in that final.  Both played very well in the semi-finals so I think this will be a blockbuster clash...
Prediction - Nadal to beat Djokovic in 3 sets

Highlights from Djokovic/Federer semi-final... the second set tiebreak saw the best tennis of the match.

WTA Final - Maria Sharapova v Li Na
Sharapova moved into the Rome Final for the second year in a row with an impressive 6-3 6-4 victory over Angelique Kerber.  She will meet Li Na, who did not have to take to the court as Serena Williams pulled out with a back injury.  Li has been steadily improving in form, but she has been handed a helping hand this week with both Azarenka and Williams pulling out the competition.  The last match between Li and Sharapova in Miami was one of the worst matches I have watched all year! Hopefully this match will be of a much higher quality although I still think Sharapova will take the title in relatively straightforward fashion...
Prediction - Sharapova to beat Li in 2 sets

Match point between Sharapova/Kerber... it has been great to see such big crowds for many of the WTA matches this week.

You can view my original predictions for the WTA and ATP tournaments in Rome to see how I did... this has been probably my best week of 2012 for the mens predictions!
