US Open: Womens Quarter-Final Predictions for Day 9

Victoria Azarenka v Sam Stosur
Victoria Azarenka has danced through to the quarter-finals of the US Open for the first time in her career.  She is yet to lose more than two games in any of the eight sets she has played and next faces Sam Stosur.  The reigning US Open champion has looked solid so far and did well to fight past a plucky effort from Laura Robson.  Azarenka holds a significant edge over Stosur in their head-to-head; Azarenka has won all six encounters and in only one of those matches did Stosur manage to win more than five games.  I just cannot look past Azarenka in her form and in her previous smashings of Stosur...

Prediction - Azarenka to beat Stosur in 2 sets
Maria Sharapova v Marion Bartoli
Marion Bartoli produced a remarkable performance in the 4th round to beat Petra Kvitova, 1-6 6-2 6-0.  Bartoli has the potential to raise her game to meteoric heights and she has done it to shock Justine Henin, Venus Williams and Victoria Azarenka in her career.  Perhaps it was most surprising that Kvitova had destroyed Bartoli 1&1 in Canada and she was well on the way to that again before Bartoli struck gold.  Maria Sharapova had a toughie against Nadia Petrova, but used a rain delay to her advantage to overturn a 2-0 third set deficit.  Like the first match-up, there is a significant edge to one of the players; Sharapova has won all four matches and in straight sets.  Kvitova may have folded against a Bartoli onslaught, but that is one thing you will not get from Maria...

Prediction - Sharapova to beat Bartoli in 2 sets
