Madrid Finals Round-Up; Serena slays Sharapova, Nadal eases past Wawrinka

Serena Williams
Madrid is over for another year and once again, Serena Williams took home the title with another battering display in the final.  Serena defeated Maria Sharapova, 6-1 6-4, storming through a one-sided first set before recovering from an early break down to win it in straight sets.  I had hope that Sharapova would have a chance in this match to rival Serena and at least make it competitive; however she struggled from the get-go, commiting lots of errors and a number of double faults at crucial stages of the match. Overall, it was a pretty solid week of predictions as I correctly predicted the final result.

In the men's final, there were no surprises as Rafael Nadal snapped Stanisla Wawrinka's 10-match winning streak with a 6-2 6-4 victory.  Nadal still has a chance to topple David Ferrer out of a top 4 place for Roland Garros depending on results next week.  Meanwhile, Wawrinka will be a welcome addition to the top 10; lately there have been too many weak links, but I like Wawrinka's form this year and he has a great game so its fully deserved in my eyes.  Predictions wise, it was OK for the men as I correctly predicted Nadal to win and Berdych into the semi-finals.

It has been a very busy week and we start all over again in Rome! I will post my womens preview tonight when the qualifiers have been placed.
