Magic Monday at Wimbledon: Super Sabine Lisicki beats Serena, 6-2 1-6 6-4

Sabine Lisicki
There will be a post later tonight to preview tomorrow's womens quarter-finals, but I just had to post something now as we saw the BIGGEST shock of this crazy 2013 Wimbledon tournament as Sabine Lisicki upset the world number one and defending champion, Serena Williams in a sensational 4th round match.  It is also worth noting that Serena was on a 34-match winning streak, but Lisicki came out ready to play from the get-go and had the belief that she could do this on her favourite surface.

Serena looked to be on her way to victory at 3-1 in the decider, but she significantly and very surprisingly tailed off, as Sabine maintained her aggression and fight.  There was a double fault in the final game, but in general, the way Lisicki served out the match was gutsy.  I found the upsets last week very unsettling, but this one, partly because I am a Sabine fan, I think is great for the tournament because the womens draw is completely WIDE open and literally anyone could now win it! Who's your money on now?

  2. Amazing from Sabine, just amazing!

Actually a Lisicki-Kvitova final would be good as they are my two favourite players and its probably what I would be predicting right now for the final. It's a tough one to call though because all 8 players left have a shot.
