WTA Tokyo - Jankovic and Sharapova win

Rain has heavily affected the schedule for day 2 at the Toray Pan Pacific Open in Tokyo. In the matches that did get completed, Jelena Jankovic stopped Barbara Zahlavova Strycova's six match winning streak with a 6-4 6-2 victory. Jankovic started the match in clinical form as she raced into a 4-0 lead; however she lost her momentum as she has in so many of her matches this year with a shocking game at 4-0 and was pegged back to 5-4. She did manage to finally clinch the first set benefiting from a wayward game from Zahlavova Strycova. Jankovic was more consistent in the second set and was able to close the match out with any nerves. In other matches, Maria Sharapova overcame some late jitters to beat Tamarine Tanasugarn, 6-2 7-5 and Marion Bartoli recovered from a second set bagel to take out Ayumi Morita, 6-3 0-6 6-3.

My quarter-final predictions, which I didn't have time to post this weekend are:
Wozniacki v Jankovic
Azarenka v Peng
Stosur v Zvonareva
Pavlyuchenkova v Cetkovska

Cetkovska is already out :( Oh well for my prediction of an early Sharapova exit!!! There are some good matches to look forward tomorrow... the in-form Angelique Kerber will take on Agnieszka Radwanska, who she took out in the second round of the US Open on her dream run to the semi-finals. Also look out for Laura Robson who takes on Ana Ivanovic in an intriguing second round clash.

Tip for Tuesday - Arn to beat Goerges
