US Open Day 15 - Djokovic beats Nadal

Novak Djokovic won his third major of the year after beating Rafael Nadal, 6-2 6-4 6-7 6-1 in a fantastic final. Both players were engaged in some truly terrific baseline tussles with many marathon games; one highlight in particular was the third game of the second set where Djokovic came through an epic 18 minute game. I didn't particularly enjoy their last encounter in the Wimbledon final, but this match was superb. Djokovic was the more attacking player and in particular, returning the Nadal serve very well.

All in all, it has been an enjoyable US Open that has been somewhat overshadowed by the weather and poor scheduling. I am now in mourning with all of the Grand Slam's over for another year :( Both tours now move onto Asia as we wrap up the season and the players battle for the last spots at the season ending championships; the men return to London, meanwhile the women will be in Istanbul this year. I have really enjoyed blogging during the US Open and plan to do a "Best of the US Open Blog" if I have some time in the next week. If not, I hope to return for some of the Asian swing in the coming weeks whilst I search for a job!
