The mens Acapulco final between Rafael Nadal and David Ferrer was the top billing on Saturday's order of play and it was Nadal who sent out a message to the rest of the tour with a 6-0 6-2 smashing of his fellow Spaniard. You have to feel sorry for Ferrer, who certainly lacks the belief to beat the big guys as he suffered a similar thrashing in the Australian Open semi-finals to Novak Djokovic. Nadal has now confirmed that he will play Indian Wells, which is really great news as it is the first time in quite a while that the real big top 4 on the ATP side will be in the same draw. In the womens draw, Sara Errani was dominant in defeating Carla Suarez Navarro, 6-0 6-4 for her first title of the year. Karolina Pliskova and Monica Niculescu won their first WTA titles in Kuala Lumpur and Florianopolis resepctively, meanwhile Ernests Gulbis and Edouard Roger-Vasselin will contest the final in Delray Beach tonight.
Highlights from Nadal/Ferrer in Acapulco
My next blogs will be focussing on the first Premier Mandatory event in Indian Wells; the womens draw comes out Monday night (UK time) and the mens draw a day later. I hope to have my first preview up on Tuesday evening!
Nadal was simply too good for Ferrer. Looks like his getting back to his best after a long layoff.
