Serena Williams |
There are six tournaments this week to help deal with the Wimbledon blues! The women head to Stanford (USA) and Palermo (Italy), meanwhile the men are scattered in Stuttgart (Germany), Newport (USA), Umag (Croatia) and Bastad (Sweden)... having four tournaments in one week is just plain stupid, but thats what happens in an Olympics year. Some of the tournaments have already started so you will have to trust my predictions, which you can view below!
WTA Stanford:
Serena Williams is set to turn up in Stanford after claiming her fifth Wimbledon title, but I wonder whether her heart will be in it this week. She has a cakewalk to the semi-finals so if she is going to try, it will easily be another title in the bag. The draw has been hit by a plethora of withdrawals, which will give a great opportunity for the likes of Marion Bartoli and Dominika Cibulkova to scoop up ranking points.
WTA Palermo:
The clay court tournament in Italy has attracted an impressive field; Sara Errani will be the stand-out favourite having dominated these types of events all year, but also look out for Roberta Vinci, Julia Goerges, Anabel Medina Garrigues and Carla Suarez Navarro.
ATP Newport:
Three Americans will be raring to go in Newport for this grass court tournament; John Isner headlines the tournament with Sam Querrey and Ryan Harrison dangerous floaters in the draw. Milos Raonic will be looking to put the disappointment of Wimbledon behind him, meanwhile Kei Nishikori plays here too.
ATP Stuttgart:
Janko Tipsarevic and Juan Monaco headline this clay court tournament in Stuttgart. Tommy Haas will be dangerous on home soil having won the title in Halle the week before Wimbledon and is joined in the draw by Bernard Tomic, Pablo Andujar and Nadal conqueroring, Lukas Rosol.
ATP Umag:
Fernando Verdasco and Marin Cilic are the top two seeds, but they have plenty of competition with last year's champion, Alexandr Dolgopolov, Marcel Granollers and Juan Carlos Ferrero in the draw too.
Final Prediction - Marin Cilic d. Marcel Granollers
ATP Bastad:
David Ferrer and Nicolas Almagro head to Swedish clay and having witnessed their form on the dirt this year, it is extremely hard to predict a final other than these two.
Final Prediction - David Ferrer d. Nicolas Almagro
