WTA Stanford update: Vandeweghe beats Jankovic

Jelena Jankovic
Here is a quick round-up of what has been happening so far this week:

WTA Stanford:
Serena Williams won her opening match against Nicole Gibbs, 6-2 6-1 to set up a quarter-final match with Chanelle Scheepers; however the number 4 seed, Jelena Jankovic was not so lucky as she lost yet another first round match, this time to Coco VandewegheHeather Watson had a strong first round win against Sloane Stephens, but just came up short in a tight three setter with Yanina Wickmayer in the second round.

WTA Palermo:
Palermo has seen some epic matches this week including the longest main draw match of 2012 with Alexandra Cadantu upsetting Alize Cornet in the second round.  Sara Errani continues to look dominant on the clay however Anabel Medina Garrigues, who has won this tournament on five occasions, was completely out of sorts in a 6-1 6-3 first round rout by Maria Elena Camerin.

ATP Stuttgart:
Tommy Haas fell in the second round of Stuttgart, as did Pablo Andujar (to Guillermo Garcia-Lopez) and Bernard Tomic (to Thomasz Bellucci).  Juan Monaco ansd Janko Tipsarevic both look good bets for the final in a tournament where I have made some solid predictions so far ;-)

ATP Newport:
The Isner/Mahut rematch once again fizzled out rather spectacularly as John Isner cruised to a 6-2 7-6 victory.  My tips for the final have both fallen; Sam Querrey had an epic collapse as he wasted two match points to go down to Dudi Sela, meanwhile Milos Raonic suffered a surprisingly easy straight sets loss to Benjamin Becker.  I thought Raonic would be dynamite on the grass, but his form has been disappointing in the last month and particularly on the grass.
