ATP World Tour Finals: Day 5 Predictions

Tomas Berdych
Novak Djokovic v Tomas Berdych
It is all still to play for in Group A by virtue of Tomas Berdych's three set win over Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, 7-5 3-6 6-1.  There are many different permutations regarding qualifications, but all four players technically still have a chance of progressing.  Djokovic overcame Andy Murray in an absorbing encounter, 4-6 6-3 7-5.  The Serbian world number one can confirm his qualification with a win, meanwhile Berdych will probably have to rely on other results.  Djokovic holds a significant edge in the head-to-head with a 10-1 lead and most recently, had too much game for the Czech in a 6-3 6-4 victory in Shanghai.  There is a lot on the line in this match and although I have noticed Berdych's steady improvements in his mental game, I think he will come up short against Djokovic.

Prediction - Djokovic to beat Berdych in 2 tight sets

Andy Murray v Jo-Wilfried Tsonga
Yesterday's losers from the Group A will square off in the final round robin match.  Andy Murray gave his all, but once again came up short against Novak Djokovic.  He takes on Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, who was all over the place in his loss to Tomas Berdych.  He raised his game to claim the second set and earn two break points in the third set, but then tailed off signifcantly.  He seemed confused at times; at 1-0 in the third set he sat down for a changeover!  Like the first match, there is a big gap in the head-to-head with Murray winning 6 of their 7 encounters.  I have not been impressed with Tsonga this week and I think Murray will confirm his place in the semi-finals with a straight sets victory.

Prediction - Murray to beat Tsonga in 2 sets
