This has been my best week of predictions all year as I have yet to get one incorrect all tournament! Could it all go wrong tomorrow? Most probably as I am sticking by my original picks...
Novak Djokovic v Juan Martin Del Potro
Novak Djokovic has been in good form this tournament having qualified top of Group A with straight set wins over Tomas Berdych and Jo-Wilfried Tsonga, and a come from behind win against Andy Murray. The Serb, whose previous best at a World Tour Finals in London was a semi-final, has been the most consistent performer this week and now takes on the dangerous Juan Martin Del Potro. He must be one of the few players on tour who would rather play Roger Federer than David Ferrer!
After a tight three set loss to Ferrer, Del Potro has rebounded with wins over Janko Tipsarevic and more impressively, over Federer today. Djokovic dominates the head-to-head 6-2, but Del Potro did net a win in the bronze medal match at the Olympics. The Argentine has been improving with every match and I am going for a big ol' shock with Del Potro stunning Djokovic to reach the final... this could very well be where my luck runs out ;-)
Prediction - Del Potro to beat Djokovic in 3 sets |
Roger Federer v Andy Murray
It is a star studded semi-final line-up this year with Roger Federer and Andy Murray taking to the evening slot at the O2. Federer hung onto top spot despite losing to Juan Martin Del Potro in three sets. This was because of David Ferrer's three set win over Janko Tipsarevic in what was an essentially dead rubber. Murray qualified last night with a straight sets win over the wildly fluctuating, Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. Murray leads the head-to-head with Federer by 10 wins to 8; Federer had owned Murray in their first two encounters in 2012 including a triumphant Wimbledon title victory, but Murray has completely turned the tables in the final of the Olympics and in Shanghai about a month ago. 2012 has seen Murray emerge at the tournaments that count and he is going to end it in style...
Prediction - Murray to beat Federer in 2 tight sets |
