Victoria Azarenka finally beats Serena Williams, 7-6(6) 2-6 6-3 in Doha Final

Victoria Azarenka
The Doha final did not fail to disappoint as Victoria Azarenka claimed just her second ever victory over Serena Williams with a 7-6(6) 2-6 6-3 victory in an engaging finale.  Azarenka played a terrific final set, outhitting Serena from the baseline and playing the crucial points remarkably wellThe win should certainly give Azarenka a great deal of confidence and gives some weight to the potential of the Azarenka/Serena rivalry  The fact that the top four all made the semi-finals is good, but a lack of rivalries (just look at the semi-final scorelines) is what is really missing.  After flopping in the semi-finals, I am glad to have nailed my final prediction from yesterday in which I went for Vika in 3 sets.

In the other tournaments this week, Rafael Nadal claimed his first title since his comeback with a surprisingly one-sided 6-2 6-3 win over David Nalbandian in Sao Paulo.  He looked far from his best all week though and those pesky knees still seem to be bothering him.  Juan Martin Del Potro won in Rotterdam, beating Julien Benneteau in the final and, Tommy Haas and Milos Raonic will play out the San Jose final.  There are a host of tournaments next week, but I am feeling under the weather so I will just be posting my predictions without previews, which you can look at using the tabs at the top of the page.

Highlights from Serena/Vika
