WTA Charleston Final Prediction: Serena Williams v Jelena Jankovic

Serena Williams
It has been an enjoyable week of tennis to follow in Charleston and we have been rewarded with an interesting final between Serena Williams and Jelena Jankovic.  Serena strolled past her sister Venus Williams in a rather anticlimactic semi-final, 6-1 6-2.  The other semi-final, which Jankovic won, was much more dramatic as she was pushed to three sets by the impressive Stefanie Voegele.  Jankovic recovered from a break down in the decider and some dramatic outbursts to prevail in a 6-4 6-7(6) 6-2 victory.

Serena has had a very solid week having come straight from winning the Miami title to the green clay of Charleston.  She has yet to lose a set in the tournament so far.  Jankovic has had a much tougher route with three matches being stretched the distance including her second round match against Caroline Garcia where she saved match points.  Jankovic has been racking up the wins, which is great for her confidence, but I certainly won't be jumping on the bandwagon yet as none of her recent wins have come against top 10 players.

Serena and JJ have an interesting head-to-head because Jankovic is one of the few current players on tour who has really challenged Serena.  Williams leads 5-4 including a win at the Olympics last year on the grass.  Jankovic did win their last match on clay, a dramatic semi-final in Rome, which Jankovic won 4-6 6-3 7-6(5).  Jankovic's game though is not as solid as it used to be and I do not think she stands much of a chance in a final.   Anyway, I expect it to be a fun match.

Prediction - Serena to beat Jankovic in 2 sets
