Disappointing Lisicki out in Round 1 of Linz

Sabine Lisicki was knocked out of WTA Linz by Alberta Brianti in a 7-5 4-6 6-3 loss. Lisicki raced out into a 5-2 lead but struggled throughout the set with her serve and ball toss. This then seemed to affect the rest of her game as she could barely get a ball in court and she lost five straight games to hand Brianti the first set. Lisicki steadied the ship in the second set as she earnt one break and served much better, winning 80% of both 1st and 2nd serves. Lisicki then carried the momentum into the third set to take an early lead, but was pegged back by a plucky Brianti who went onto to claim the surprise win against the German. I imagine Lisicki is still recovering from the food poisoning she picked up in Beijing, but this was still a bad loss for her after holding leads in the two sets she lost. Brianti will now play Lucie Safarova in the second round.

In other matches, Daniela Hantuchova took three sets to beat Petra Martic and Sorana Cirstea scored her biggest win of the year to take out Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova, 4-6 6-0 6-4. In the final match of the day, Julia Goerges is currently struggling against Evgeniya Rodina after losing the first set 6-3. This would be a surprise but I think Goerges will turn it around!!!
