WTA Montreal - Azarenka out, Radwanska's quest for world number one...

Agnieszka Radwanska
As to be expected, the big names are dropping like flies in Montreal with Victoria Azarenka joining Maria Sharapova in pulling out from the tournament.  This now gives a prime opportunity for Agnieszka Radwanska to claim the number one spot if she can win the title.  If she was to do this, I really think it would be bad for the WTA tour having yet another slamless number one.

There have been some shocking results this week and none more so than Roberta Vinci's second round 6-0 6-0 thumping of Ana Ivanovic.  I think it was just a bad day at the office, but it will be interesting to see how she responds in Cincinnati.  I have been very impressed with the Canadians this week, particularly Eugenie Bouchard who beat Shahar Peer in the first round and showed her terrific potential in a 6-4 6-4 loss to Li Na

Petra Kvitova is the first player into the quarter-finals following her first top 10 win this year against Marion Bartoli, 6-1 6-1.  Many people forget Kvitova's Grand Slam performances this year have included 2 semi-finals and 1 quarter-final; yes she has failed to deliver the big performances, but she must be praised for improving her consistency this year.  This could be a great opportunity for her to reach a final in 2012 with Azarenka now out of her section.
