Caroline Wozniacki and Petra Kvitova booked their places in the semi-finals of New Haven yesterday with striaght-set wins. Wozniacki picked up a worrying knee injury during her match with Dominika Cibulkova but benefitted from a complete capitulation from the Slovak to win 6-2 6-1. Kvitova beat fellow Czech Lucie Safarova, 6-3 6-3 to win the US Open series title by virtue of semi-final runs in new Haven and Cincy, and winning the title in Canada. Wozniacki will now play Maria Kirilenko who eased past Olga Govortsova and Kvitova will play Sara Errani who continued her impressive week with a 6-4 6-2 victory over Marion Bartoli.
The Dallas final will see Jelena Jankovic square off with Roberta Vinci. Jankovic has enjoyed a surprising resurgence this week and since a first round struggle with Yaroslava Shvedova, has won all her matches in straight sets. Vinci too has looked impressive and enjoyed her second double bagel off this hard court summer season over Bojana Jovanovski. She previously beat Ana Ivanovic in Canada, 6-0 6-0 and against Jankovic tonight, will be going for the Serbian treble of double bagel wins!
