Wimbledon: Womens Semi-Final Predictions for Day 10

Four women remain in the womens draw with one former champion, one breakthrough star of 2012 and two women battling it out for the coveted world number one spot.

Agnieszka Radwanska and Angelique Kerber have been two of the most consistent performers on the WTA tour this year and they will do battle in the first semi-final with the winner contesting a first ever Grand Slam final.  Both came through epic quarter-final matches; Radwanska defeated Maria Kirilenko, 7-5 4-6 7-5 in a high quality encounter, which was played on two courts and suffered numerous rain breaks.  Kerber showed terrific determination to defeat Sabine Lisicki in a dramatic see-saw encounter, 6-3 6-7 7-5.  Kerber wasted three match points in the second set, but then found herself 5-3 down in the final set before regrouping.

Radwanska has had a pretty routine passage through the draw, but she deserves credit for fighting through some tough moments in her match with Kirilenko.  Kerber has beaten some extremely competent players through her draw, but she was far too passive in the final set of her match with Lisicki.   Kerber and Radwanska are two all in their head-to-head; their last two matches have gone the distance with Kerber coming through at the US Open last year, but Radwanska exacting revenge a few weeks later in Tokyo.  There is so much up for grabs in this match so I think it will be a nervous affair, but i'm going for Kerber to reach her first Grand Slam final.

Serena Williams v Victoria Azarenka

This year's womens Wimbledon tournament has delivered some terrific clashes and they just keep on coming as the Australian Open champion, Victoria Azarenka takes on the queen of grass, Serena Williams.  Serena produced the most impressive performance of the quarter-finalists with a 6-3 7-5 victory over the defending champion, Petra Kvitova.  It was a high quality match from both but Serena's serving was the difference.  Victoria Azarenka also won in two sets, but was twice broken serving for the match before eventually prevailing against the incredibly tenacious Tamira Paszek, 6-3 7-6.

This will be Azarenka's second straight Grand Slam semi-final and once again she will come up as the underdog.  Serena has fought threw some tricky matches against Zheng Jie and Yaroslava Shvedova, but yesterday displayed a calm and focused intensity against Kvitova.  Serena has a terrific record over Azarenka winning their last five encounters including a demolition in the final of Madrid.  The Belarusian has got to start well and in particular, serve well because she is going to find few weaknesses in the Serena serve.  As much as I would like to see Azarenka win this, I really do not stand her much chance in reaching her first ever Wimbledon final.
