Pavlyuchenkova woes continue in Doha

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova
Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova's terrible start to 2012 continued as she suffered a 1-6 6-2 6-3 loss to Ksenia Pervak in the first round of the Qatar Open in Doha.  Pavlyuchenkova actually started the match well racing through the first set and boasting solid stats on serve winning 69% of 1st serve points and 78% of 2nd serves points; however things went downhill from there as Pervak powered past the Russian in three sets.  Pavlyuchenkova looks particularly fragile so far this year and this was a disappointing defeat against a rather average player in my opinion.  The other seeds all won in straight sets; Ana Ivanovic strolled past an injured Carla Suarez Navarro and Svetlana Kuznetsova won a hard fought match with Maria Jose Martinez Sanchez, who was playing her first match of 2012.  Peng Shuai looked well short of her best, but came through a tight second set with Fatima Al-Nabhani to win 6-0 7-5.  In other matches, Mona Barthel set up a second round clash with Victoria Azarenka with a 7-6 7-6 victory over Caroline Garcia and Monica Niculescu demolished Elena Vesnina, 6-1 6-0.  Vesnina was on terrible form committing 33 errors in the 64-minute contest.
