Agnieszka Radwanska won her first title of the 2012 season with a hard fought 7-5 6-4 victory over Julia Goerges in the final of the Premier event in Dubai. Radwanska was the more solid player producing 12 winners, but only 6 unforced errors. Goerges went through good and bad patches as she offered up a -6 differential of 24 winners to 30 unforced errors. It was still an excellent week for the German and a respectable performance today given that she had been beaten handily in their previous encounter at this year's Australian Open in the Round of 16. Radwanska will now move up to world number five in the rankings. This week's win was all the more impressive because I felt she didn't actually play her best tennis - she was extremely close to being knocked out in her first match of the week against Aleksandra Wozniak and she still needs to improve her pedestrian second serve. Radwanska has taken a wildcard into next week's tournament in Kuala Lumpur. I wonder if this is an attempt to boost her ranking points even further and target close friend, Caroline Wozniacki who is currently in fourth position.
