Rafael Nadal |
The French Open finally wrapped up this afternoon with Rafael Nadal claiming a 6-4 6-3 2-6 7-5 victory over Novak Djokovic. One of them was to make history as a result of winning the title and it was Nadal who passed Bjorn Borg's six titles at Roland Garros in a rain delayed final. Both players struggled to hit top form yesterday; Nadal started very well and deservedly took a two sets lead, but Djokovic who struggled with errors came roaring back in the drizzly conditions. His best chance of winning would have been to have finished last night where he had Nadal on the ropes, but when they returned today Nadal had regained his composure and took a tense, yet exciting fourth set when Djokovic threw in a surprising double fault on championship point. It was a strange ending to the tournament, which will be remembered for the history created by Nadal and Sharapova, but not particularly for the final matches, which were all relatively low key.
