David Ferrer |
Friday was a bad day for Moo and his predictions, but it was a great day for tennis as Rafael Nadal prevailed over Novak Djokovic in a fantastic five set semi-final, 6-4 3-6 6-1 6-7(3) 9-7 in 4 hours and 38 minutes. I was only able to watch the first set and bits and bobs from the fifth set, but I was amazed at the incredible standard of the tennis. I am gutted I was not able to watch the whole match, but when I get the chance too I will sit down and watch the highlights. Nadal takes on David Ferrer, who made his first Grand Slam final with a 6-1 7-6(3) 6-2 victory over an irratic Jo-Wilfried Tsonga. The Frenchman never really showed up during this match and there were even boo's in the crowd when he left the court... only in Paris. Ferrer though delivered a consistent display that was far too measured for Tsonga to deal with and he has progressed to the final without dropping a set, which is a really impressive effort from the Spaniard.
Like the women's final, the head-to-head is well and truly in favour of one player; Nadal leads by 19 wins to 4 and has won their last eight matches, which have all taken place on the clay. Nadal beat Ferrer in Madrid and Rome, but both matches did go the distance. Ferrer has shown he can compete with Nadal, but it often takes Ferrer's very best and Nadal's average/good play for a close match to prevail and even then, Nadal still wins. Nadal was simply sensational at times yesterday and got so many of Djokovic's shots back and the Serb was going at it. Ferrer has the added pressure of going into a first ever Grand Slam final and that will take some time to adjust to. Nadal is going for his eight Roland Garros title and I cannot see Daveeed stopping him...
Prediction - Nadal to beat Ferrer in 3 tight sets
