WTA Tokyo - Woz, Vandeweghe make QF's

Caroline Wozniacki and Coco Vandeweghe were just two of the names to make the QF's of WTA Tokyo on Wednesday. Wozniacki continued her impressive form of late with a comprehensive 6-1 6-2 victory over Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova. Once again, Pavlyuchenkova struggled to cope with Wozniacki as she was on the end of yet another disappointing one-sided defeat following her loss to Date Krumm last week in Seoul. Wozniacki will now play her good friend Agnieszka Radwanska in the QF after beating Andrea Petkovic, 6-3 6-3 who had previously taken out Svetlana Kuznetsova. I anticipate Wozniacki to be too strong for Radwanska however i hope for a close contest and that Radwanska can start to produce the big performances that are needed if she is to progress further up the rankings.

Coco Vandeweghe continued her stunning week by thrashing Julia Goerges, 6-3 6-0. Goerges had previously taken out both Safina and Stosur but was no match today for Vandeweghe who will play Victoria Azarenka in the QF after Marion Bartoli retired after losing the first set to Azarenka, 6-2. Azarenka will be the favourite to reach the SF's however she musn't underestimate Coco who is beginning to shine on the WTA tour. Kaia Kanepi continued to impress as she dispatched of Jelena Jankovic once again, 6-4 6-4 and she will now play Francesca Schiavone who saw off Kimiko Date Krumm who had previously shocked both Sharapova and Hantuchova. This should be an extremely close match between two form players; i'd give the slight edge to Schiavone.

The final QF is on paper, the most exciting as Elena Dementieva will take on Vera Zvonareva. Dementieva continued her excellent form this week with a superb 6-4 6-2 victory over Flavia Pennetta in what was their first meeting. Zvonareva was also comfortable in victory with a 6-4 6-0 win over Roberta Vinci. The two Russians will play for the first time since 2008 and with both players playing well it should be a high quality affair. I'm predicting that it will be Elena who will be victorious...

Predictions - Wozniacki to beat Radwanska in 2 sets, Azarenka to beat Vandeweghe in 2 sets, Schiavone to beat Kanepi in 3 sets and Dementieva to beat Zvonareva in 3 sets.
