For the fourth time this year, Victoria Azarenka and Agnieszka Radwanska will do battle in the latter stages of a main draw event. Radwanska was first into the quarter-finals when her opponent, Jamie Hampton retired whilst trailing in the third set, 3-0. I expected this to be a stroll in the park for Radwanska, but Hampton provided stern resistance as she fought back to claim the second set. The young American was forced to pull out of the contest with cramp at 6-3 4-6 3-0 in what has been a superb tournament for the world number 99 (soon to be much higher!). Azarenka eased past Julia Goerges, 6-3 6-1 in a match that started in promising fashion before the German player drifted away from the match at 2-2 in the first set. There was a brief glimpse of hope when Goerges broke Azarenka to love at the start of the second set with four stunning winners; however that would be her last game in the match as she was broken in her last six service games. The quarter-final match between Azarenka and Radwanska will be previewed tomorrow along with the other three quarter-finals...
