Murray beats Djokovic to reach Dubai final

Andy Murray produced an excellent performance to defeat Novak Djokovic, 6-2 7-5 and inflict the first defeat of 2012 for the Serb.  I managed to watch the highlights of the match, which was the first tennis I have managed to properly sit down and watch all week! I thought Murray played well, particularly on the serve and return, but Djokovic was well below his best on this occasion.  He made many uncharacteristic-like unforced errors particularly in the latter stages of the first set and when Murray buckled serving for the match at 6-2 5-3, I was surprised he did not seize the opportunity although credit to Murray, he did manage to recover well.

Murray will play Roger Federer in the final as he fended off four set points in the second set of his 7-6 7-6 victory against Juan Martin Del Potro.  There were some excellent points during the match (see below) and I must point out that it is great to see such a fast surface in Dubai, which I always feel contributes to more exciting tennis.  Del Potro has had an excellent three weeks and is finally starting to produce great results week in, week out and reinvigorate some of the excitement that was created when he won the US Open back in 2009.  He is still a little way off challenging the top 4, but he is going in the right direction and will be a threat at Indian Wells and Miami.  This will be Federer and Murray's first match since the 2010 ATP World Tour Finals where Federer triumphed 6-4 6-2; however I am predicting that Murray will win the Dubai title in straight sets.

The rally at 2:52 is immense... it would have been even more amazing if it had ended on a winner!
