WTA Cincinnati - Clijsters reigns supreme in Cincy

Kim Clijsters produced a fantastic comeback to defeat Maria Sharapova in the final of the womens premier event in Cincinnati. Clijsters was down 6-2 5-3 and saved 3MP's before a thunderstorm hit Cincy. When the players returned, Clijsters managed to reduce the number of errors on her groundstrokes and started to dictate the points moving Sharapova around the court and exposing her movement. Kim also toughened up her serve, which was leaking points in the first set with many double faults. Maria was impressive up to the rain delay and was serving incredibly well but will be disappointed to have lost this one 2-6 7-6 6-2 and feel slightly aggrieved with the timing of the weather as this should have been her title. This win would probably have meant more to Sharapova, who is still waiting for her first win over a top 10 player this year. Anyhow, as we move nearer to the US Open both Clijsters and Sharapova are looking two of the favourites to win the title. This tournament also highlighted impressive performances by Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova and Ana Ivanovic as we now move forward to Montreal.
