It was an extremely good tournament this week in Istanbul and it was the talented teen, Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova who won the title. A-Pav reached the final by first beating Cirstea in the QF and then in a tight SF against the in-form Jarka Groth. Her opponent in the final was Elena Vesnina, who like her compatriot Anna Chakvetadze showed a rejuvenation of form and defeated Anastasia Rodionova in the QF followed by an excellent win over Andrea Petkovic, recovering from 0-3 down in the final set. Vesnina has shown good form on the hard courts and will look to improve her ranking further before the US Open. A-Pav won the final in what was an epic 3 setter lasting over 3 hours. Vesnina will be disappointed to have a lost a match where she led 7-5 4-0 however you cannot deny A-Pav's fighting spirit in coming through 5-7 7-5 6-4. A-Pav has looked good here and will look to shine over the next couple of weeks against tougher opposition and show she can shine on the big stage at this months US Open.
